The Power of Phases: Breaking Down Mountains into Manageable Steps
A breakthrough moment on the soccer field completely changed how I approach challenges—both as a father and as a healthcare provider. While coaching my son Judah's soccer team, I witnessed the transformative power of breaking down overwhelming tasks into manageable phases. Rather than telling him to score goals (which left him paralyzed with anxiety), I simply asked him to run—something he already excelled at. The result? Not only did he score his first goal, but he taught me a profound lesson about achievement.
This episode explores how the "power of phases" concept can revolutionize your approach to daily life, health goals, and personal challenges. Most of us view our days as overwhelming blocks of time filled with countless tasks. But by intentionally structuring your day into distinct phases—morning for focused work, midday for execution, evening for recovery—you create a rhythm that reduces burnout and increases productivity. You'll learn how this same principle applies to chiropractic care through our three-phase approach: initial intensive care to reduce pain, corrective care to stabilize and strengthen, and wellness care to optimize function.
The beauty of this approach lies in its simplicity. Whether you're struggling with health challenges, feeling overwhelmed by work demands, or facing personal obstacles, focusing on just the next step creates momentum that eventually leads to breakthrough results. As I tell my patients at Mustard Seed Chiropractic in Smyrna, Georgia: care isn't like Amazon—you don't get everything perfect on day one. But by committing to the process, showing up consistently, and celebrating small victories, you'll find yourself achieving goals that once seemed impossible. Take a breath, find your phase, and move forward one step at a time. We're here to support your journey toward optimal health and wellness.

So, without further ado, I'm your host, dr Jaren Knight Bryant, and today's episode is going to be personal and powerful. It is meaningful to me. It's called the Power of Phases Winning the Day One Step at a Time, and it's going to start like this.
Speaker 1:This past weekend, I had an incredible moment with my son, judah, who plays soccer. I'm also a coach of his team and, like any parent and coach knows, it's not always easy. Judah has some challenges with the game of soccer, however, it really is. When he's starting out the game, however, he gets a little bit overwhelmed. Sometimes he sits down just a little bit whenever the tears start to come down and the game is starting. As a dad, it can be tough to watch, but I also know for a fact that life isn't easy easy, so I have to continue to coach him through it and allow him to experience some of the challenges of life and do his best and in the past when he made a mistake sometime I might push a little hard. Then I've also learned how to throttle back and try to work through it. And truly, being a coach of a soccer team with not only my son but other little ones, it really, if you allow it to it, helps you to understand a little bit more about life as well.
Speaker 1:Long story short, this weekend I decided to try something just a little bit different. I recently attended a Winter's Edge chiropractic seminar. That's a consulting group that we use here in our chiropractic office. It's been a fantastic resource for us, source for us. And then one of the biggest lessons that we kind of focused on at that seminar was breaking down big goals into smaller, more manageable steps, aka phases. When we look at the huge and intimidating task, we tend to freeze as just humans. It can be overwhelming to try to climb a whole mountain in one day, but when we just commit to the next step, we start to build something important that's called momentum.
Speaker 1:So this weekend, instead of me telling Judah to go out there and score a goal. I simply said hey, let's focus on the one thing today, judah, let's just simply run. I want you just to run. And I remember holding them middle of the game while all the other kids are playing, all the other coaches are coaching, parents are cheering for their kiddos and judah's kind of on the side, and we decided to get some laps in. I noticed that he was really good at running. He's right, he's very fast. So I said, judah, instead of um focusing on scoring a goal, can you just run for me? And so I ran with with him. And then I said, hey, let's get back into the game and let's just run. Don't worry about the ball, just run. Don't worry about scoring, just run. And he did. As he ran, the ball happened to roll in front of him. He didn't hesitate, he kept running, he stayed focused, he kept on moving that ball down the field. Next thing, you know, he scored a goal and don't get me wrong, I'm and everyone went crazy, all his friends, the whole team. They knew Judah was having a challenge and they all went crazy for him when he scored that goal.
Speaker 1:But I think there's something deeper in this process and I want you to listen to this. The goal isn't about winning. The goal isn't even always about scoring is fear and frustration and the feeling of being overwhelmed, all because he focused on the small step in front of him and it was something he knew how to do already. It was just to run, simply run. And that's what I want to talk about today the concept of phases in our life and how this applies not only to us in chiropractic care, but how we live our life and how we structure our days.
Speaker 1:The power of phases in daily life is so important. Most people look at their day as just this one big, overwhelming block of time. But what if we start to break this stuff down into distinct, intentional phases? I mean morning, midday and even evening. Each phase has a different rhythm. You guys just like your favorite song, and aligning your task with your energy level helps you to stay more productive, less distracted and in more control. For example, use your morning phase for focused work, prayer planning, exercise whatever sets the tone for you for the day. Midday it might be for your execution window. That's knocking out the hard, mundane tasks, running the errands, connecting with others, and in the evening phase, it's all about recovery, reflection and reconnecting with family and when you live in phases, you reduce burnout, which is so important. You know where to focus and you know when to focus. You gain this sense of structure and the structure brings peace and control and clarity.
Speaker 1:Now there's power phases in chiropractic care as well, and here is where it directly ties to how you are on your chiropractic journey. Here at Must Receive Chiropractic, we break things down into phases of care as well. Initial care plans are intensive. We're trying to reduce that pain. We want to get you healing better. We do want to help you feel better. And then we start moving more into this kind of wellness or correctional phase, where we start to stabilize the spine, focus on strengthening the nervous system that neural integrity, if you will and rebuilding your structure. That's when we start to add on more exercises, because your bones are actually in alignment and you're not going to wear it down and grind it down out of it being out of place. Then we have this wellness care phase, if you will, where we're focusing on you being your very best, optimal functioning, living in alignment and also in alignment with your health and wellness goals.
Speaker 1:You see, just like Judah learned, don't try to score the goal on day one. That's what most people try to do. Care is not like Amazon. You don't get a chance to just walk in on day one and get everything just sent out perfectly right. That's only Amazon. That's the only people that have been able to kind of knock that out and do that well.
Speaker 1:I want you to focus on today's adjustment, focus on showing up, focus on your next step. That's where the healing lies, and it's not just the end goal, but it is the consistent commitment to the next best step. And that principle shows up in life too, everywhere. Every time I walk in early to my F45 workouts, the class is broken down into these 30 to 45 second phases, if you will. I don't look at the whole 45 minutes. I lock into the next set, the next station, and before you know it, I've strengthened my body, I've sharpened my mind, I've built momentum for the rest of the day. It's not magic, it's movement. It's happening one step at a time.
Speaker 1:So for some of my final thoughts here, maybe today is your first visit here at Monster Seat Chiropractic, or maybe it's your 200th visit. Maybe you've been on fire with your goals this year. Maybe you're just feeling stuck and burnt out and overwhelmed, no matter where you are. Take this to heart. I want you to break it down, focus on the phases of life that you're in, execute this step well, then build from there. You don't need to score everything all at once. All you need to do is the next thing, the next play, the next goal, with purpose, with consistency and with grace. This is how we heal, this is how we grow, this is how we win in health and wellness and in life. It was a great reminder for my son, judah. But again, it happens whenever you coach, and it's not easy days and it's not always glorious and great, but you do learn along the process, and that is life. So thanks for tuning in.
