The Silent Killer: Why Your Spine Matters
Your body is designed with an incredible communication system—your brain sending vital messages through your nervous system to every cell, tissue, and organ. But what happens when that communication breaks down?
When vertebral subluxation (spinal misalignment) occurs, it creates interference in the nerve pathways essential for optimal health. Dr. Knight Bryant explains that this interference is comparable to a dropped phone call—no matter how hard you try to listen, the message simply can't get through until the interference is removed. This is precisely what chiropractic adjustments address.
Surprisingly, only 10% of your nervous system is dedicated to pain perception. The other 90% silently controls your bodily functions, immune response, and cellular communication. This explains why many people have significant nerve interference without experiencing pain until serious health problems develop. Dr. Bryant shares his personal transformation—how lifelong symptoms he thought were normal (tinnitus, unusual sweating, visual disturbances) disappeared after his first chiropractic adjustment.
The healthcare paradigm has traditionally positioned chiropractic as a last resort, but Dr. Bryant advocates for a reversed approach: conservative chiropractic care first, medications if necessary, and surgery as a final option. This prioritizes your body's innate healing abilities while minimizing risks associated with more invasive treatments. With advanced diagnostic tools like neurological scans and X-rays, chiropractors can precisely identify areas of interference and provide specific adjustments tailored to your needs.
Whether you're suffering from health challenges or simply want to optimize your body's function, understanding the chiropractic objective reveals why hundreds of people—from infants to seniors—visit Mustard Seed Chiropractic weekly. It's not just about spinal alignment; it's about removing interference so your body can express its full health potential. Ready to experience what true health feels like? Schedule your evaluation today and discover the difference proper nervous system function can make in your life.
Hey, what's up you guys, dr Knight Bryant, here from Mustard Seed Chiropractic, located in beautiful I mean beautiful Smyrna, georgia. First thing first. We can't wait to see you here in our office. Hopefully, this podcast has been helpful for you already. We're excited for this episode.
Speaker 1:Today we're talking about the chiropractic objective. Why in the world do hundreds and hundreds of people three to four hundred people a week here at Mustard Seed Chiropractic, why do they come in to have their babies checked? Why does my husband come in to make sure that his spine is in alignment? Why does my wife come in to make sure that her pelvis is balanced? And it's not just about the spine, it's actually about the nervous system. So, no pun intended, here we go. I have to make sure you guys know exactly what it's all about here.
Speaker 1:When we talked about correcting certain things, you'll use that verbiage. You'll hear that verbiage in different offices at times. But what chiropractors are referring to is correcting the vertebral subluxation. Vertebral simply means bone. A subluxation simply means misalignment, and so when you have this bone misalignment, it can block the nerve hole. Therefore the nerve supply, the actual hole that is created, that God created, that goes from the brain down to the down down throughout the body, throughout your spine, all the way to every cell, tissue and organ. When that nerve hole is blocked via the vertebra, can the organ system, cells and tissues function the way that they're supposed to Heck? No, it's impossible. They're not even getting the information adequately and appropriately, as they're supposed to.
Speaker 1:The example that I love to talk about with patients is simple. You got to use the old phones, in this case, iphones nowadays and other phones are doing a decent job at this, but I remember back in the day you could have a call and if you had a call with a person and it got dropped or you hear kind of spotty if they're going through a tunnel or something like that you could not get the message through or adequately hear them through the phone, just because of the actual interference that was taking place via the phone going through a tunnel. I don't care how hard you listen, I don't care how bad you wanted to get the information, I don't care how hard you listen, I don't care how bad you wanted to get the information, it did not matter, because there was an interference located and you couldn't hear again until the interference was removed. The exact same thing is the case when it comes to chiropractic care. Many people are walking around with their bodies literally in dysfunction, disorganized, not communicating well. All type of diseases, autoimmune diseases, arthritis, just a slew of digestive system issues, heart conditions, nervous system all these things Because the brain and the body is not communicating back and forth appropriately, and so it's extremely important that we correct nerve interference and understand that nerve interference being corrected is not considered to be a specific cure for any particular type of symptom or disease. It is simply there to be applicable to any person that exhibits nerve interference, and that's why every single man, woman, baby, child, mom, uncle, cousin should be checked by a chiropractor, regardless, regardless of the presence or absence of symptoms or disease.
Speaker 1:Many of you probably already know my story, and it's very simple. My mom dragged me into a chiropractic office. I did not go to a chiropractor because I was in neck pain, back pain. I played football my whole life. At this time I was in high school. She met this chiropractor. He was doing a phenomenal job. I really didn't believe in doctors in general in general, and let alone a chiropractor, but anyway, she dragged me in and he does an x-ray, he does a scan and I get my first chiropractic adjustment. I'm just happy my neck didn't fall off. It was a loud popping crack. I was extremely nervous before the adjustment, but I also didn't believe in anything they were telling me. He was telling me concerning my exams.
Speaker 1:Long story short, I get adjusted and two weeks later something really intriguing happened to me. In particular, I could I would hear a ringing in my ear. It's called tinnitus. I would hear that every single day my whole life, especially when I rotated my head to the left. Okay, my whole life. I thought it was normal. Also, I would get sweat pellets on my forehead and on my stomach. You could see it through my shirt. Whenever I rotated my head to the left, I would experience almost like this blackout sensation and I would see little sprinkly things moving throughout my eyes whenever I rotated my head to the left. Thought it was normal. Thought it was normal. Had it my whole entire life, did not tell my mom about it, did not tell friends and family about it. I just thought that's what happened when people looked their head to the left. Too Weird, I know.
Speaker 1:Chiropractor adjusted me Two weeks later. It no longer happened for the rest of my life. How do you explain that? Well, he had a great explanation and I agree with him to this day. When the atlas bone the first bone in my neck was out of place, it was placing pressure literally onto my brainstem and it was causing this dysautonomia. My body wasn't regulating appropriately. Also, there is a vertebral artery that runs through that actual atlas bone and with it being shift over toward the left that much, I was not getting adequate amount of blood supply to my brain. When I rotated my head to the left, this chiropractor gently and specifically put the bone into place with confidence and my bad attitude at the time, and literally adjusted my life. Adjusted my life and I say that because now I'm a chiropractor, right, not only that, but I no longer had those issues that I was experiencing before. Not only that, but caused me to become just intrigued with school in a deeper way. Biology and chemistry became what I studied in undergrad and to this day, and to this day, I never, ever, will forget that people live with so much dysfunction that they don't even know what optimal function truly is.
Speaker 1:Until you've been adjusted by a chiropractor and you do not have to be in pain. You do not have to have neck pain, back pain, as many people put us in a category or have this catastrophic car accident right In order to see the chiropractor. That is not the bucket that we should be living in. That is just a part of what we do. It just so happens that we deal with the neck and the spine. If your nervous system was in your nose, the joke is I would be adjusting your nose. Okay, because it's all about making sure that the alignment of the spine is there or the nerve holes are wide open, so that the brain and the nervous system can communicate can communicate to the body exactly how it is designed to in the first place, and this is the reason why I'm doing this podcast today.
Speaker 1:I need to remind people that it's not just about pain, you guys. Pain is just the tip of the iceberg. Your body only 10%, only 10% of your nervous system is dedicated to pain sensory 10%. And it's not just pain. It's telling you about numbness, tingling all this, oh, but only 10% is designed for that. The other 90% of your nervous system do you know what it's doing is dealing with functionality. It's making sure information is going from cell to cell, tissue to tissue organ systems heart, lungs, liver, kidneys, you name it. It's doing it and you don't even think about it. No pun intended, alright. So the body is amazing. The body can heal itself, but the body needs no interference, and that's where the chiropractor comes into play. I just make sure that I communicate as clearly as I can, as often as I can and as adequately as I can, so that people can know. This is why it's important to get your spine checked.
Speaker 1:Does anything stay in place forever? The answer, I will give it to you, is no. If you clean your room today, I would give it. In our case, I would give it two days. And we don't have to blink and things are out of place. It's going to take, and we call that entropy. By the way, entropy is just a law that states that things in order, become, they're going to disorder. Naturally, that's just how it goes.
Speaker 1:It takes energy to organize things. You have to put energy in to organize it, and so if you want to organize mind, if you want to organize the life, if you want to organize mind, if you want to be in alignment, it's actually going to take energy and thoughtfulness to do so, which is why you need someone thinking about your back. Think about that. When's the last time anybody has thought about your back and I know this sounds very salesy in this moment, but chiropractors are awesome because we actually got your back. Literally, we're the ones touching, making sure things are in alignment. We check on it multiple times in in many cases throughout the week so we know if something is shifting or moving. We, many of many chiropractors, can tell, when you're walking through the door, exactly what's happening with the body. We can see it in your head position your shoulders, the way you walk, the way you move. It tells us everything about how that nerve. It tells us everything that this person is in fight or flight or a sympathetic mode, or if they're in parasympathetic, which is rest and digest.
Speaker 1:So today is a crucial, crucial episode, and I want to really I want to hit on something else that's really important too. I have a recommendation today, and in no way, in no way, am I suggesting that you should never consult with a medical physician. No way, I'm not. I'm not saying that. The medical profession is awesome in a lot of different ways. Emergency medicine is incredible. We need everyone in the medical field. We need everyone across medical lines these days. So this is no bashing on anyone whatsoever. There are surgeons, that there are surgeries that need to be performed, there are broken bones that need to be healed, there are internal injuries that need medical treatment, so no way am I bashing today.
Speaker 1:However, I do want to help people realize and confront the fact that if you're having a physical problem or, specifically, you need to be checked, the safest and most effective choice for general health care should be your chiropractor, and this is a shift that I'm hoping for on many fronts. Of course, we want practitioners to be excellent from frontline making sure the exams are done correctly, make sure the body is functioning at its best, and then make sure we refer out whenever needed, but that's another topic for another day, as it pertains to the actual patient. You need to understand that if you're looking for something conservative, fast, effective, to be actually seen, for someone to actually touch and feel what is happening in the area, and an honest medical opinion, then you need to go and seek a chiropractor, and so my recommendation for people is simple Chiropractic should be first. Conservative care should be first. Checking and getting in efficiently should be first, and then you might want to introduce drugs if needed, and then, if that fails, you might need to consider surgery and right now the US and our medical system has this totally backwards and really patients even have this in their mind in a different way and and it's it's. Let me go to the aggressive route. Let me, uh, tell my body what to do via the medications and then, when it's all said and done, and it's been 20 years late and in my body and things have finally broken down, maybe I'll walk in and see my chiropractor, um, and the the model, if you will, has just been flipped on its head, and so we want to help. You know that chiropractic should be first for you, your friends, your family.
Speaker 1:One way that we make sure that it's done excellently here at muster see chiropractic is of course we want to take x-rays. We need it. Of course we want to make sure we have neuro scans. Of course we can show patients if they're sympathetic or parasympathetic. Of course we can tell you if it's a tight muscle or not. I mean, that's so easy. Any chiropractor can do that. But now we have SMG tools to show us exactly if there's muscle tension surrounding that spine. We can figure out what the issue is. That's not a problem for most chiropractors. That's not an issue the. The issue is the public. They don't always understand what exactly we do and how we can help, and so I just wanted to clear that up on this episode today and just remind you hey, don't let your spine get on your nerves. If chiropractic's purpose is truly to correct the nerve interference, that that nerve interference will promote sickness and disease within the body and it will rob you of vitality, it will rob you of a healthy immune system. And I just want to remind you too of some cool facts.
Speaker 1:The spinal column itself has 24 bones. We call them vertebra. Seven of them are located in your neck, 12 are found in your mid back and five of them are in your low back. And it's very rare to find someone with the spine that's perfectly aligned. And really in most cases the spine curves slightly to the right or to the left in most people just a little bit. And also we'll have a vertebra or two that are totally either rotated or twist and many times moved out of place, and so it is important to get checked by your chiropractor. And when that vertebra is misaligned, the flow and the messages again from the brain to the body and the cells. They become disoriented right and that nerve interference will create disorganization of the bodily processes in the body. We call that dis ease by the way, notice the uh dis ease there because we want the body in ease. The misalignment of the vertebra can often exist undetected and slowly undermine your health, resist undetected and slowly undermine your health. And so just just breaking that down for you guys is now you understand the difference between a pop and a crack versus a subluxation, versus an adjustment and nerve interference.
Speaker 1:So when the word we use of dis-ease, what is that? It's a combination of two things dis and ease. Dis is the prefix meaning from, apart from right, and ease meaning a state of balance. So it follows that in this, dis-ease is a lack of comfort, a loss of harmony within the system. Note that when there's this lack of harmony, in music in particular, a musician might adjust, like the notes right to complement one another, so it can work well together. And that's exactly what an adjustment does it corrects or reduces nerve interference so it can allow the body to restore its bodily harmony. And, unlike music, when there's this discord, it's immediately apparent. You can actually hear it right in the moment. You're like uh-uh, that didn't go right.
Speaker 1:And so when it comes to the nerve interference. It's not so obvious at first. The unfortunate aspect of this ease is that it doesn't really need to be painful. As I kind of described earlier in this episode, there's a silent destroying piece of your body's health and well-being. Then, gradually, the body's life support systems begin to fail and the ability to live fully or optimally it starts to diminish. So, to keep it real, nerve interference is often referred to as the silent killer. It's the thing that you didn't know. That was a thing causing all the issues, right?
Speaker 1:So it may be present for many years. It could be present from birth for many people. Think about it Whenever a baby is born, many times they're rotated from the neck or pulled out from the neck, and there's no one to check it, by the way, and so that's where we should be coming into play to check even babies, and the adjustments are simple and gentle and they're done even with the pinkies, in most cases with chiropractors. But you need to understand that it does undermine quietly your health and it robs you of vitality, and yet you won't see major signs that appear until it's too late. So, because of nerve interference, which is something that patients always are asking me, doc, what is causing this? Many times it's numerous, all right, it's often and it's unavoidable. Again, they can be from birth.
Speaker 1:If the birth is difficult or requires the use of forceps, many births result in subluxation. So children start their critical years of growth off with a misalignment, their critical years of growth off with a misalignment. Don't forget we fall while we learn to walk and then in later years we'll engage in activities like skateboarding, surfing, playing football, playing basketball, all kinds of sports. These things do cause subluxation. By the way, other spinal problems can cause it, such as junk food, diet because of the inflammation that builds up in the body. Poor sleeping positions that's for you guys sleeping on the couches I hear you out there, I see you. Many seemingly harmlessly activities can disturb the integrity of your nervous system as adults.
Speaker 1:Many things can happen to weaken the spine and cause interference Again, like your sports, your accidents, your automobile collisions, falls off of houses, bad posture, emotional stress, dental problems, pushing ourselves past the limit, alcohol abuse, drug abuse, carrying heavy briefcases and handbags on a day-to-day basis. We've reached a point where nerve interference is an epidemic in our population and to ignore it and not have your spine checked regularly by a chiropractor, it's just an invite to dis-ease, to overwhelm your body and impair the quality of life that you have for years to come. So, if you don't want that to happen, if you do want to explore the connection between your brain and your nervous system, if you do want to know, am I disconnected system? If you do want to know, am I disconnected? Is my body only maybe functioning at 50% right now? And you don't want to live like that. You need to see a chiropractor. I would ask you to come and see us today so we can get you scheduled for your first patient evaluation and we can let you know hey, we can gain new insight, which is important. Literally, it's called an insight scan. We can gain new insight to help promote your health and wellness in a very tangible way, in a very loving way, in a very specific way and in a very fun way.
Speaker 1:Chiropractic care is fun. Maintaining good health is fun. Having less fear of dangerous chemicals and surgeries and invasive details later is fun. Living your best life is fun, and so this was a longer episode today, but share it with a friend. Please rate it, please ask questions, please seek care, seek care. I tell our team all the time we're in the business of health care and the part that's important is making sure that people are healthy. But the part that matters to the people the most is the care, and that's very important and you should know that when you walk through our doors you're going to be cared for tremendously. Hey again. I hope this episode was fantastic for you today. I hope you are blessed, I hope you're well and I can't wait to see you soon. Have a great day.
