What's up, you guys, dr Knight Bryan here from Mustard Seed Chiropractic, and I'm super excited today to share a really cool episode called your Nervous System and the Effects of Chiropractic Care. We're going to open up just like this. One thing I've noticed as a provider is people are anxious to improve their circumstances, but they're unwilling to improve themselves and therefore they remain bound. I'm going to say that again, people are really anxious to improve their circumstances, but they're really unwilling to improve themselves and therefore they remain bound. What do I mean by that? That means that many times, we have these fears and anxieties that we truly want the things around us to change. We want our environment to change, we want to be in a better financial situation, we want our families to change, we want stuff to get better. However, we're unwilling to improve ourselves, and therefore the change cannot happen from the inside out, and so the outside remains the same or, many times, gets worse, and so we remained bound. And so, with that opening statement, I want to dive into how your body has the potential to heal itself. You have the potential to feel better, function better than ever before, and it all starts with your nervous system, and chiropractic care has everything to do with it. So let's kind of dive in a little bit here.
Speaker 1:Most of you might know this already, but chiropractic is well known for its effects on the muscular skeletal system. You ask anybody why they go to see a chiropractor. They'll probably tell you neck pain, back pain, all those kind of things. That is neuromuscular care right, and we are really good at that. In fact, I tell patients if you don't feel better within 12 visits in most cases, or you don't feel like you're improving, I'm probably the wrong chiropractor and it's probably not the right service for you, because people do feel better with chiropractic care. We really address well the muscles, the bones, the tendons, the ligaments, the joints. But it's so interesting that chiropractic is really there to help regulate the nervous system. You see, when those bones in your spine there's 24 of them back there, some people 25, some people 26, and some really rare cases, some people 23. But most people have 24 vertebrae and when these bones shift out of place they put pressure on the nervous system. Yes, it does not allow the brain to communicate to the body and the body to communicate back to the brain how it is supposed to, and most people know when they're coming to at least our practice. We put our time and energy into making sure people understand what chiropractic care is, educating our patients, not just racking and cracking, as we like to say, and going through the motions. No, we want you to understand why you're going to feel and function at the highest level, and it's all because of what's happening from the inside out. So let's kind of dive into it.
Speaker 1:Many of you haven't heard much about the nervous system. We're going to talk about it today. Your central nervous system is basically the part of the body that processes most of the functions in your body. Right, that includes your mind and your central column, if you will. And so long story short short, that's the brain and the spinal cord. So when these bones shift out of place in your back, it literally puts pressure on that cord, and so when people think about chiropractic care, they often think of the nervous system, specifically the spine.
Speaker 1:But we're really focusing again on the nerve holes being wide open so that the brain can talk to the body. So what does the cns do, if you will, or the central nervous system? It do Think of it like this it's like a computer for your body. It's helping the inside of your body really process information, right. The same way you would input information into a keyboard and then the computer has to process it, show you information and you respond back based off of the information.
Speaker 1:The body is somewhat the same, and in this case it's using senses, right. So your sight, your smell, your taste, your touch, which are really your experiences of life? That's why I tell patients you are your nervous system. You're not just bones, muscles, ligaments put together and we look at it separately, in different pieces. You are your nervous system, you are the whole experience, and so we're trying to improve experiences for patients. And so your spinal cord in the brain is interpreting the sensory information, and that's allowing your body to respond to everything in your environment. Right.
Speaker 1:So the CNS controls voluntary emotions like talking and walking. It also controls the involuntary emotions, things like breathing and blinking. Right, the CNS is also core part of your personality. So your thoughts, your emotions, your perceptions, all these are a part of this created experience. That's being expressed from the inside out. When your central nervous system is working properly, your cognition, so the way you think, is extremely clear In all of your senses, we'll receive information effectively, right. That's when the body is coordinated and it is also freed of pain, and most of you guys know this. You add pain into the mix and we're not going to think the same, we're not going to function the same. Right, in fact, there's this heightened sense of of awareness when there's pain involved, and so that that is a huge change in the body.
Speaker 1:Here's another part that I need you to know about, and that's the eccentric nervous system, the EN. Ens, this is the branch of the peripheral nervous system. So think of it like if it's spaghetti noodles going out to the body and the different organs and cells and tissues. Think of it like that. It's pretty much the part that's controlling the digestive system, the large bundles of nerves that stretch across the entire gastrointestinal tract, and I want you to know what it does. So, long story short, it's regulating all those activities that you don't even think about, right?
Speaker 1:Here's the interesting part when the body is under stress and strain, the ENS stops the digestive system process, mainly because we are in fight or flight. If a bear was coming to attack you, it's no longer important to try to eat the meal. What's the most important thing now is to get the oxygen into the brain, into the muscles, so we can move, groove, go, get away from the bear or get ready to actually face the bear on and fight it. Right, it's no longer important what you were eating for lunch, right? That's not what the body thinks about. And so here's the thing I need you to know when the body's under this perpetual stress, there's no bear chasing us. By the way, right, For most of us, we're not living out there in a country where there's a bear chasing us every single day, but we do have these stressors throughout our life, and it can be work. It can be a traffic in Atlanta, right, traffic in Atlanta is wild. I'm sure traffic in LA is even worse, in New York. But there's just these stressors that get added onto the body our posture, our sitting, all these different details and it puts our body in fight or flight. And when it's in fight or flight, there's this dysfunction in the digestive system, there's dysfunction in the nervous system. Inflammation starts to increase. This stress puts way too much pressure on the body and it disrupts functionality. And so here is the key that I want you to know Chiropractic care has this beautiful therapeutic effect on the nervous system.
Speaker 1:You know whether it's non-surgical decompression, traction, soft tissue manipulation and any other form of chiropractic being used or employed, or the one that we highly recommend, that we know. That is the most important that we get trained to do in chiropractic school, and that is hands on adjusting via the actual neuromuscular system to help restore and regulate function of the nervous system. That's the most important thing you could ever do as a chiropractor is place your hands on someone's spine and put bones into place so that the body can heal, feel and function at its best. This is what true chiropractic care is all about. So let's talk a little deeper. The nervous system is extremely responsive to chiropractic care is all about. So let's talk a little deeper. The nervous system is extremely responsive to chiropractic care and it's mainly because we're focusing on that spine and that spinal cord, which contains the largest portion of the central nervous system. It is the focus of chiropractic care and it has multiple functions of rejuvenating the system, right? So let's just talk about a couple here Improved cognition, thinking clarity.
Speaker 1:So if you're having trouble in that area, chiropractic care can help you. How? So? When we adjust you the oxygen level in the actual blood, the oxygen level that goes to the actual brain, it increases dramatically. You literally start being able to think better. Right the frontal lobe, your decision-making area of your brain, starts to think better. You have more clarity, so that's extremely important. We also can help lower the heart rate right, regulate respiration, which is extremely important. We can help you improve your digestive system, reduce and eliminate pain. All these different details.
Speaker 1:Most people have no idea, but yet they experience it after chiropractic care and they're like man. This is so cool Dr G and I'm like. I know most people had no idea about it, but we see it every single day. One that is really common and popular now is headaches and migraines. Headaches and migraines are common, but they are not normal and we teach this all the time in our clinic. Just because you see everybody with it, it does not mean that it is normal. It just means that it is common, and so one of the main things that we want to do is eliminate headaches and migraines via the nervous system, via the chiropractic adjustment, and we see this every single day in care. In fact, it's not one day that doesn't go by. If someone tells me Doc, I had this headache and migraine happening the day before, came in and got adjusted, came back in the next day, I feel incredible. I feel great every single day, also increasing your energy levels. That's extremely important as well. Quality of sleep if you're not healing at night, then your body is not able to turn over and create brand new cells that create organ systems that should function great the next day. So if you're losing quality of sleep, you're losing your ability to body to heal appropriately. And then, last but not least, balance and coordination is something that we see all the time, especially for my athletes, or even as we get a little bit more in our golden ages or years of life, it's more important to have great balance and coordination. Chiropractic care can help out with that tremendously.
Speaker 1:Last but not least, I wanna address pain, because that normally is the main thing that people come in to see us. About 10% of your nervous system, 10% of your nervous system, is dedicated to pain receptors. What does that tell you? That tells you the way God created you. The whole body is not. It wasn't designed just to only experience pain and respond just to pain. There's 90 other percent of the nervous system that's dealing with the functionality of the body. And it's not to say that pain isn't important. It's just to say that that's just one area of the body that the nervous system that coordinates every single function in the body is handling is doing so much more. So we want to address your pain, but we also want to see you improving function.
Speaker 1:So let's talk about pain a little bit. Pain in the body suggests that there is imbalance in your nervous system, which also means pain is not the problem and this is something I have to re-educate my patients on all the time but pain is not the problem. Pain just tells us it's a symptom. It's a symptom. It's telling us something's not right, there's imbalance. So when pain occurs in the neuromuscular system, it is a result of a misalignment in the spine or skeletal structure. And any time there's this misalignment in the body whether it's from a trauma or an accident or an injury or some postural imbalance the subluxation or the misalignment creates this pain and it creates discomfort for the neuromuscular system, feedback, and so that's what's happening when you go to see a chiropractor. Is we're addressing that easy, right, same day, and you almost can feel the difference there, right. When the misalignment occurs in the body, the joints and the misaligned bones, they do compress and they start to become inflamed or create inflammation in surrounding nerves, tissues, and this results in your actual pain. So, additionally, the misalignment can force the neuromuscular system to compensate for this lack of quality support of being a part of the actual skeletal structure.
Speaker 1:As an expert right as a chiropractor, as your doctor I'm here to help your body get realigned, so that the brain can communicate with the body like never before. We are the experts to help remove that pressure from nerves so the body can heal, feel, function and adapt the way that it's supposed to right. So I'll just honestly say, if you're experiencing pain, sharp pain, shooting pain, aching pain, dull pain, hot, cold, feeling, right, any of these type of discomforts in the body then you already know you can hear it from my voice, you can see it from the Google reviews, you can see it from our patient testimonials, you can see it from other people going to other chiropractors that chiropractic care can help you move towards the state of comfort in your body, the state of balancing your body, the state of ease. So I want to encourage you today if you're, if you've been looking, if you've been searching, if you've been feeling anxious, if you've been feeling kind of off balance, it's time to improve, it's time to get better, it's time for you to not only be thinking about your pain, but actually doing something about it, actually taking a step, being willing to improve yourself, which is what we talked about earlier in the episode. People are just so anxious to improve their circumstances, the things that are happening around them. Put a bandaid on it, put a medication on it, cover it up, then actually improving from the inside out and actually enjoying the freedom of what it means to actually live, feel and function at your best. So, again, my name is Dr Jagaran Knight Bryant.
